2010 presents an exciting group of young drivers representing the CAMS Rising Star Program. This year the program has four rookie drivers with an average age of just sixteen; which is consistent with the AMSF's objective of facilitating the rapid development of drivers from the junior ranks to national and international competition. 2010 CAMS Rising Star Program participants include Liam Sager, Garry Jacobson, Jack LeBrocq and the Grandson of Sir Jack Brabham, Matthew Brabham.
All drivers have had very positive starts to their seasons, with Matthew Brabham winning the first of the Victorian Formula Ford State rounds and Garry Jacobson not far behind in third place. The AMSF is very pleased with the progress of all four CAMS Rising Star drivers and wish them all the best for season 2010.
Looking overseas, it is fantastic to see AMSF International Rising Star Scott Pye not only competing in the 2010 British Formula Ford Championship, but winning two of the first three rounds at Oulton Park. Scott has carried his success (third in the 2009 Australian Formula Ford Championship) and settled right into competing in the UK. We wish Scott all the best for his season and hope for more continued success for the AMSF International Rising Star.
Joining Scott Pye in the AMSF International Rising Star Program is Molly Taylor. This is Molly's second year in the program which shows her talent and desire to reach the pinnacle in international rallying. Molly is competing in the 2010 Citroen Racing Trophy and claimed her early stake for the championship with a third place finish in the first round.
The AMSF again wishes all past funded drivers all the best for their respective seasons. At this early stage of the season, we have a large number of Australian's who are already in the title hunt. To mention just a couple, Will Power is had a stunning start to his 2010 IndyCar Series, taking out the first two races and remaining on top of the championship table. Daniel Ricciardo leads the Renault 3.5 World Series after the first round; while closer to home James Courtney is having a great start to the V8 Supercar Championship Series and currently sits in second position.
To ensure the AMSF can continue to assist our talented young Australian drivers, the AMSF hosted a dinner to celebrate and honour the career of Tim Schenken. A night enjoyed by all, Tim's motor racing career was honoured by dignitaries such as Sir Jackie Stewart, Tony Cochrane and a host of current and former V8 Supercar drivers, with over 300 guests treated to stories from Tim's career. The AMSF also raised vital funds to ensure our talented drivers can continue to grow and develop on the national and international motor sport stage.
I look forward to the remainder of the 2010 motor racing season with anticipation.
