CAMS - Speed Read. November 2009, Edition #9

Get ready for the CAMS CARnival!

CAMS is preparing to stage Australia’s first major national motoring and motor sport festival in the rapidly-growing Echuca-Moama region over the NSW Labor Day long weekend from 1-4 October 2010.

CARnival, as the event has been named, will be the largest national car club gathering ever staged in Australia. It is fully supported by the local Shires and will become an annual festival celebrating our enjoyment of all types of motor vehicles.

The festival has been designed to appeal to all members of all CAMS and invited car clubs, regardless of the make, model, or age of vehicle and irrespective of whether their interest lies in passive or competitive motoring activities.

The unique CARnival format will allow clubs to select from a broad menu to tailor their own ‘National’ meeting from a wide range of static and active events.

Arriving on Friday October 1, entrants will spend the weekend taking part in a wide range of activities including:

  • a major Show & Shine Car Show of around 2,000 vehicles, grouped by marquee and models, with trophies
  • the choice of up to five different Motorkhanas on sealed and unsealed surfaces
  • two Auto Tests
  • two Airport-based Speed Events including a 400m Sprint
  • a Rally Sprint consisting of up to six events including a speedway
  • a Twilight Navigation/Observation Trial on public roads
  • a Fuel Economy Test
  • ‘Fun-khana’ events for the whole family
  • a major Swap Meet
  • a Motoring and Motorsport Film Festival

There will also be a Bathurst-style pit stop competition amongst major teams that will visit the CARnival on their way to the Bathurst 1000 race the following weekend.

CARnival is being organised for CAMS by Motor Sport Concepts – a vastly experienced motoring event management team consisting of Michael Browning, Tom Snooks, Bob Watson, Philip Bernadou and Phil Rainer.

More details, including entry information, will be available early in the new year on the event’s dedicated website at www.camscarnival.com.au.

In the meantime, make sure you keep the weekend of 2-3 October 2010 free!
