With Christmas fast approaching and the new year looming, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the CAMS members, staff, officials, competitors and members of the motor sport community for their hard work and continued support throughout 2009. This year has certainly not been without its challenges, however by working together we can achieve great things.
Early in November I attended the Nationallube Historic Sandown held at Sandown International Raceway and I was positively overwhelmed by this fantastic event. The huge entry list, the brilliant cars, the crowd and the atmosphere were among the factors that made this event come alive. Congratulations to the Victorian Historic Racing Register (VHRR) for hosting an excellent historic program and to the event organisers, officials and staff who together made this event the great spectacle that it was.
Sadly, also in November we lost two of our valued CAMS members and respected rally competitors, Gary Tierney and David Carra at the Classic Adelaide tarmac rally. This loss was felt deeply within the rally fraternity as well as throughout the wider motor sport community and general public.
It’s times like this that remind us that motor sport is an inherently dangerous sport and that we must do all that we can to promote a Safety 1st culture to minimise the risks as much as possible. It is also times like this that we feel a true sense of the motor sport ‘family’. It is touching to see the motor sport community band together in an offering of support and friendship.
December saw the completion of Australian motor sport competition and I would like to congratulate all the 2009 champions and series winners for their outstanding achievement.
On behalf of CAMS, I wish you all a merry Christmas and a safe and enjoyable New Year. We look forward to working with you to ensure motor sport is bigger and better in 2010.
